Step-By-Step Instructions

Once you have printed out the template, cut out the template pieces, and gathered your supplies, we can start making the flower! This begins at step 4 from the instructions PDF.

The photos below show the construction of the largest sized wall rose. The small size is demonstrated in the video above.

Step 4: Cut out backing for flowers

Step 5: Cut out flower centre and petals

Step 6: Create flower centre

The centre is created from a balled up piece of scrap paper, and the oval cut from template piece 2.

Stretch out the paper to form a circle and place ball of scrap paper in the centre.

Apply glue around the outer edge of the round of paper.

Scrunch together the edges of the paper to enclose the scrap paper ball.

Squeeze and twist the paper to form the bulb shaped centre of the flower.

Step 7: Form central bud

The bud is created using the centre from the previous step and the 3 petals cut from template piece 3.

Shape each petal by stretching the centre of the petal to form a cupped shape.

Apply glue to the sides and bottom of a petal and glue it onto the central bulb.

After attaching second petal.

After attaching final petal. The result looks like a rose bud.

Step 8: Shape and attach petals around the bud

This step uses petals cut from template pieces 4 and 5.

Shape each petal by stretching the centre of the petal, and curling the top edge of the petal. You can roll the paper around a pencil or other tool to curl it.

Apply glue to the bottom 2 cm of the petal from template piece 4.

Attach the petal at the base of the central bud.

Continue attaching the petals from template piece 4 around the bud.

Attach the next round of petals from template piece 5 using the same method.

Step 9: Shape and attach petals to backing

This step uses the backing and remaining petals. Since the large size is being shown here, there are 12 petals cut from template piece 7. Other sizes use 6 petals.

Shape the petals by stretching the centre and curling the top edges.

Apply glue on one side of the bottom slit of a petal.

Overlap the paper on either side of the slit to form a cupped shape.

Repeat for all the petals.

Apply glue to the bottom of a petal cut from template piece 7.

Attach the petal to the backing.

Repeat to attach 6 petals forming the outermost round of petals.

For the largest size, use the remaining petals cut from template piece 7 to form another round of petals.

For all sizes, use the 6 petals cut from template piece 6 to form the next round of petals.

Step 10: Attach middle of flower to bottom part of flower

If the base of the middle part of the flower is uneven, trim it to make it flat.

Apply glue to the base of the middle of the flower.

Attach it to the centre of the bottom part of the flower. Hold it in place, or use balled up scrap paper to prop up the middle part until the glue is fully dry.
